L.  Foreign Adoptions


C.R.S. § 19-5-205
A resident of Colorado may file a petition seeking a decree validating a foreign adoption granted by a court of any country other than the United States. The petition must include information, other than written consent and portions of the home study, required of any other adoption petition including:
  • A verified statement that one of the adopting parents is a resident of Colorado;
  • The original or a certified copy of a valid foreign adoption decree along with a translation of the decree;
  • Evidence that the child is a resident or naturalized citizen of the United States.
C.R.S. § 19-5-210(4)
After the adoption hearing, the court may:
  • Dismiss the petition;
  • Continue the hearing; or
  • Grant the adoption decree.
