The Colorado Children’s Code and Colorado Rules of Juvenile Procedure (C.R.J.P.) apply to juvenile court proceedings. Juvenile courts must follow the special procedures defined in the Colorado Children’s Code and C.R.J.P. In the absence of a specific code or rule, the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure (C.R.C.P.) and Colorado Rules of Evidence (C.R.E.) apply.

Directives from the Colorado Supreme Court must be followed as Orders or Rules. The Directives, called Chief Justice Directives (CJD), dictate, for example, how a court determines whether someone qualifies for an attorney or the duties of a GAL.
