A. Child’s Welfare


C.R.S. § 19-1-102(1)(a)

The first purpose is to ensure the child’s welfare and interests of society are served.

In serving these interests, the preference is to provide care and guidance in the child’s own home. These purposes must be considered before a court awards custody of a child.

If a child is removed from home, ensure the placement is safe.      

Children should be adequately cared for in secure relative homes, foster homes, group homes, residential treatment facilities, or other out-of-home placements.


C.R.S. § 19-1-102(1.7)
The court must protect the identity of the child victim from further trauma within the legal proceedings by not disseminating or publishing the names of such victims.  Protect the child’s anonymity to avoid causing the child undue hardship, discomfort, and distress.
